Waiting On Wednesday in a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine in which we discuss an upcoming release that you’re…well…waiting on! And this seems like the perfect excuse to have mini fangirl freakouts over the books I NEED ASAP.
This week, I’m flailing over Hunted.
What You Need to Know
Hunted by Meagan Spooner
Published by HarperTeen on March 14th, 2017
Synopsis: Beauty knows the Beast’s forest in her bones—and in her blood. Though she grew up with the city’s highest aristocrats, far from her father’s old lodge, she knows that the forest holds secrets and that her father is the only hunter who’s ever come close to discovering them.
So when her father loses his fortune and moves Yeva and her sisters back to the outskirts of town, Yeva is secretly relieved. Out in the wilderness, there’s no pressure to make idle chatter with vapid baronessas…or to submit to marrying a wealthy gentleman. But Yeva’s father’s misfortune may have cost him his mind, and when he goes missing in the woods, Yeva sets her sights on one prey: the creature he’d been obsessively tracking just before his disappearance.
Deaf to her sisters’ protests, Yeva hunts this strange Beast back into his own territory—a cursed valley, a ruined castle, and a world of creatures that Yeva’s only heard about in fairy tales. A world that can bring her ruin or salvation. Who will survive: the Beauty, or the Beast?
Why I’m Flailing
I’m flailing because I’m addicted to retellings on general principles and not only does this sounds like one based more on the original tale than the Disney version – “Beauty” has two sisters, dad looses his fortune and goes MIA, potential lack of talking cutlery – it sounds like this is going to be a little darker, a little more badass and possibly without a central romantic plot? I mean, there probably will be – it’s Beauty and the Beast! – but there isn’t a mention of romance in the synopsis. I won’t complain in the slightest if there is but if there isn’t I’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Also – true to form for me – I am having massive clothing envy for that cloak on the cover. Ugh. If I could pull that off I would be in heaven.
That’s it for me. What books are you waiting on?
